Four Stages of Conviction
To meditate according to the Chittamatra approach, we should develop conviction in four stages, then abide within the true nature which is dharmata, emptiness free of perceived objects and perceiver. Rest self-settled, uncontrived, and relaxed within that state, by determining the following:
Everything perceived is a mistaken appearance,
arising from latent tendencies.
Thus, outside nothing exists as an object.
Therefore, the perceiver as well does not exist.
And thus dharmata, empty of both, is established.
