The Progressive Stages of
Meditation on Emptiness VI

Middle-Way Autonomist:
Conduct & Fruition

Conduct
Whatever various appearances arise,
Remember their illusion- and dream-like nature.
With a heart of compassion, exert yourself in methods
For pacifying the confused appearance of the suffering of illusory sentient beings.

Fruition
Through becoming familiar with the way of space-like emptiness-of-true-existence,
Thoughts that cling to true existence, along with their habitual tendencies, will cease.
In order to accomplish the benefit of others with a heart of compassion,
It is said that perfect enlightenment is attained.

At the Dzogchen Palace of Appearance-Emptiness, Sherab Lodro [Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche] spoke this extemporaneously, whereupon Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche immediately wrote it down.

Translated under the direction of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche by Tyler Dewar of the Nitartha Translation Network, 2002.

Know this life to be like a dream.
See the mind’s unborn nature.
Aspire to be of benefit to others.
